I have long been resistant to the idea of Mini Sessions. I simply do not feel that there is enough time for everyone to let their guard down, to relax, to be present. The pictures that I am known for and that I love to make require that kids forget about the camera and parents trust me enough to start focusing their attention on the kids.

But at the same time, my inbox is always overflowing in the Fall with families who would like a few photos for their holiday cards. Families I would love to work with. They often don’t have the bandwidth that time of year for a full session, and my schedule is typically full anyway. So it is always tempting to offer Holiday Mini Sessions, but it took until 2024 to think of a way to offer them that felt consistent with my values and my style.

What did that look like? Complimentary (yes, FREE) Holiday Quick Sessions with a winter or spring session reservation for the following year. Yep, for anyone scheduling a full session early in 2025, I included a free Quick Session in late 2024.

It worked out really well. We met at Cavallo Point, spent twenty minutes together capturing some candid moments for holiday cards. We also had the chance to chat and get to know each other…a perfect intro for our full family sessions next year!

Here are some photos from the Holiday Quick Sessions. Mostly digital with a few on film.

I’m David, and I photograph Bay Area families that are super proud of where they live. My easygoing presence puts everyone at ease, and I focus on candid emotion and moments of connection. No posing, no stress.
