I have spent two very different days with Heather and Jake. The first was one of their saddest – they hired me to document a goodbye for their beloved basset hound. The second was completely joyful – the day they got married.

Heather and Jake don’t fit in any of the typical boxes, so it was no surprise that their wedding was totally unique. Their eye for design, symbolism, and a damn good time was on full display at their Baker Beach ceremony.

We started at the Conservatory of Flowers, where we captured a few quiet moments with just the two of them, then departed for Baker Beach. Call it an elopement, call it a micro wedding…a small group of the closest family gathered at the ocean’s edge to laugh and cry and congratulate this new partnership.

I’m David, and I photograph Bay Area families that are super proud of where they live. My easygoing presence puts everyone at ease, and I focus on candid emotion and moments of connection. No posing, no stress.
