I first met this San Francisco family in 2024, when their oldest daughter was just reaching toddlerhood. She’s nearly the same age as my little one, so the connection was immediate. That first session began in their home in Pacific Heights before spilling out into the neighborhood as the light softened toward sunset.
In 2025, they welcomed their second child, and we planned a similar session to mark the new chapter. We started again at home, capturing a few quiet “throwback” moments that echoed the year before. For nostalgia’s sake.
This time, they were especially excited to share Alta Plaza Park. With its sweeping lawns, towering Monterey cypress, and panoramic views from Alcatraz to the hills of Buena Vista, it’s a place woven into their daily rhythm. We wandered through the park as the afternoon unfolded, toddler-led as I like to say.
This session captures my version of a quintessential lifestyle family session. There’s a documentary element, following quietly and photographing what’s already there, paired with moments of interaction and gentle direction to keep things light, playful, and connected to their surroundings.
Easygoing, engaged, and fully present, families like this one are a natural fit for my work. They understand that what matters most is a genuinely positive experience for their children, one that feels true to who they are. The photographs that come from moments like that are the ones that last.
Presence over perfection.
This Is Why

This is why I photograph families – because want you to remember how it felt.
If you see beauty in the chaos, if you want to remember the whole rollercoaster that is childhood + parenthood, I hear you.
