Home is a complex word. Maybe it is simply where we wake up most mornings, maybe it is when we are surrounded by the people who love us most, maybe it is the space where we most intentionally craft a life for ourselves.
This family lives right on San Francisco’s Ocean Beach, but this wonderful stretch of coast is much more than a backdrop. Integrally involved in the creation of Sunset Dunes Park, San Francisco’s newest, they’re building a home. One that they graciously want to share with a whole city.
So this Quick Session was a celebration of sorts. We walked the car-free ex-Great Highway and climbed around the new installations and made our way down to the beach to enjoy this wild edge of San Francisco.
You might think that fog is a disappointment for a photo session, but for those who love SF so deeply, nothing could be more fitting on photo day than a marine layer named Karl.
This Is Why

This is why I photograph families – because want you to remember how it felt.
If you see beauty in the chaos, if you want to remember the whole rollercoaster that is childhood + parenthood, I hear you.
