Family Seasons

Are you in the season of waiting?

Are you watching your home fill with hand-knit blankets and every stuffed animal under the sun?

Or have you moved into the season of
feverish doing?

Is this the time of shared exhaustion, as you trade 2-hour sleeps as if they were gold?

Maybe you’re into an era of
constant movement?

Or is this the phase of life half spent in a messy Subaru as you travel between school drop offs and soccer fields and family camping trips?

“It not only felt natural…but we all really enjoyed ourselves. There was a great balance of letting us just do our thing, but also giving us some direction.”

“The moments he captured are priceless, I have no words for the art he created. I had tears of joy when he revealed our gallery.”

Documenting Adventure & Everyday

Looking for a way to tell a bigger story? I also offer long-form documentary family photography for those looking to take family storytelling to the next level. Like a friend with a camera, I catch moments as they naturally occur.

Ready to book a session for your family?

My calendar fills up fast. Summer, Fall, and weekends often schedule at least 6 weeks in advance. Get in touch today to find some availability.

Questions I frequently answer

We live in such an incredible place full of stunning beach, coast, and forest locations. I am always open to exploring new places, or I can share suggestions. There’s a reasonable additional travel fee for anything beyone 30 minutes from me.

There’s a $300 nonrefundable session fee to secure your spot. The remaining $900 is applied as “store credit.” The full digital gallery, in high resolution, is $800, so you’ll still have some credit left. Or you can spend it all on frames, cards, albums, and more. My pricing is all about ease and flexibility.

First, you pick a session date. If you’re like me, nothing happens until it is on the calendar. Then expect a video chat and a personal questionnaire so that I can learn a bit more about your family. I will send you curated guidance (what to wear, what to bring, what to expect), via email, leading up to your session.

After 2-4 weeks I’ll deliver your gallery, which includes a slideshow set to slightly over-dramatic music. I just can’t help myself :). Your gallery will be open for a month. If you purchase digital images, they will be downloadable as full resolution jpeg files.

I won’t ghost you after your gallery is delivered. With a curated list of my favorite print products to choose from, and a personal guide (me), this part is fun and inspiring.

Don’t stress, and expect me to quietly continue taking pictures. When we deal with adversity as a family we lean on our deepest connections to each other, and it’s beautiful!

The weather in San Francisco can be great all year long, so it’s not worth waiting for a particular season. Winter is more variable but offers incredible moments before and after the storms. Spring is windy and great for raw and wild moments. Summer is warm and sunny or beautifully foggy depending on location and timing. Fall is theoretically our “best season,” but locations are super busy and wildfire smoke can put a damper on your plans.

Weekends in the city are really busy, so if you have the ability to meet on a weekday, we are likely to find more privacy and space. I charge $100 extra for weekend sessions.

Most of the images on my website look the way they do partly because they were taken early or late in the day, within an hour or two after sunrise or before sunset. We can fine-tune your session start time based on date and location.

Some of the best images come from foggy sessions, but I am always happy to reschedule if rain is in the forecast. That said, I LOVE a family that gets out in the rain. Kids with cute umbrellas splashing around in rain boots make for some iconic SF moments!

If my schedule is clear, I’d love to! When added to a family session package, my hourly rate is $250.

Family session packages cover kids and their parents. My style is about telling the entire story, so any more than that and we need to budget more time. I charge an additional $100 for each extended family member.

My photo sessions take place outside or in your home. But you’re welcome to stop by my home office to take a look at print products or local wood samples.

Yes, but only when I think my style and skillset will serve you well. Think tiny weddings, elopements, intimate family events, and documentary-style images.

I love when families bring their pets. Know that things will be a little more chaotic and it is really important to think through the experience with your pet specifically.

Obviously, we need a pet-friendly location, and likely want to avoid crowded or distracting spaces. An in-home & backyard session, or a weekday at Fort Funston, can both work well for pets.

Let’s chat over the phone about your pet and your family.

I try to use discretion and show the utmost respect when sharing, and most of my clients are happy to help me promote my small business by sharing their images. But if you’d rather not, I totally respect that. For a small additional fee I am happy to keep your images private.
