I have been hoping for a family session at Presidio Tunnel Tops since the day it opened. I finally had the chance with this dad-daughter duo. We began on the beach and in the dunes at Crissy Field. There were cartwheels and sand angels and stick sculptures – I love how much extra time we have with just one kid and one parent. We had the chance to get to know each other.
We headed over to the Outpost Playground at Presidio Tunnel Tops right when it opened at 9:30 am. From a photography and lighting standpoint, I wish they would open the park earlier. But it hardly matters when you are having as much fun as these two were. The Outpost playground is a place they spend a lot of time so I just followed them around and got “the tour.”
Outpost Playground and Presidio Tunnel Tops are part of a new San Francisco park complex. The layout and design are singular, and most of the installations are functional works of art, even in the playground. Nearly everything is wood, and the wood has a salvaged, weathered feel, yet it is polished to a shine, and not a splinter is to be found. If you think that a photo session in a playground would suit your family well, consider Outpost at Tunnel Tops!
I’m David, and I photograph Bay Area families that are super proud of where they live. My easygoing presence puts everyone at ease, and I focus on candid emotion and moments of connection. No posing, no stress.
