This family knew the importance of preserving their baby’s first year, choosing my First Year of Life session bundle to document the transformation from a tiny newborn to a lively, curious baby. Our first session was a cozy & intimate newborn shoot in their Dogpatch home—see the gallery here.

For their second session, we headed to Presidio Tunnel Tops, one of their favorite spots for family outings. With stunning views of the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz, it is one of the most quintessentially Bay Area places I can think of. Despite the park’s popularity, we found peaceful spaces to document their daughter’s growing independence.

We ended the session at Crissy Field beach, just in time to watch a golden sunset illuminate the Bridge and the Marin Headlands. Mom and Dad helped their baby touch the Pacific Ocean for the first time, and together we soaked in the last rays of sunlight.

Kind Words

“We were looking for a photographer to capture family photos of us with our newborn daughter. We wanted someone with a more candid and natural style vs lots of posed shots. We also wanted someone we felt comfortable with since we aren’t used to being in front of a camera…”

“Our expectations were exceeded in every way working with David! In both the shoots (we did two) we felt really comfortable following his lead and direction and the sessions just felt really easy, like we were working with a long time friend.”

“The photos were incredible- we got mostly candids and natural shots which was exactly what we wanted but also really loved the ones we posed for. We loved them all!”

“We had a lot of fun putting together a lie flat album, which came out great and was very high quality.”

“We can’t think of anything we would change, and really appreciate David capturing this first year of our baby’s life and hope to do it again in the future!”

I’m David, and I photograph Bay Area families that are super proud of where they live. My easygoing presence puts everyone at ease, and I focus on candid emotion and moments of connection. No posing, no stress.
