An Engagement in the Sunshine and Tall Grass

The Details
Inspiration Sessions are about keeping our eyes wide open and saying “yes” to whatever the season and environment are telling us. I posted Sundown in the Tall Grass only two weeks before I had to archive it for the season – they mowed the grass in the San Geronimo Open Space just a few days after this session.
Christian reached out with a few questions. Would this session photograph well on film? Would it be a good fit for an engagement photoshoot? We chatted on the phone and decided that it would.
I can’t think of a more carefree, enjoyable photography experience than this one. When you walk into the tall grass, you can’t help but feel light, even giddy. It’s like being a kid again, running and jumping and falling your way through a sea of grass taller than you. We all felt it and were able to share that feeling with each other, and through the pictures we made.
Film was the perfect medium – soft, warm, saturated. It highlighted the texture of the grass and the pattern in her dress. Just looking at the pictures, you can feel the Spring sun of Marin warming your back, the brush of grass against a hand.

This Is Why
This is why I photograph weddings – because you want you to remember how it felt.
If you see beauty in the imperfection, if you want to remember the whole story that will be your wedding day, I hear you.
