Bay Area Newborn Photography

Capturing this magic (and exhausting) season in beautiful, unposed authenticity.

That first year of life

It is literally their first time around the sun. And every. single. day. is different.

You are tired, but you know this is a moment, and you know it will not last forever.

You want something to help you remember everything about today.

If you believe that everything about this season is beautiful – the joy, the wonder, and even those precious tears too – you are in the right place.

Welcome.

“The days are long, but the years are short. Enjoy every moment because they grow up so fast.”

– Every parent I know

You’re in it, I’ve been there

My daughter Maggie (aka Magpie) was born in 2023. When I walk into a room and she looks at me with her lopsided grin, I know with certainty that there is no better feeling in the world.

But let’s be real, the first year has been an absolute rollercoaster. As the work-from-home-dad, I know intimately what it means to try and manage a home and a business and a life within the little spaces between the chaos.

I bring a sense of understanding to your photo session.

I also bring the knowledge that honest images are the ones that will mean the most to you in ten years. I am not into those weird newborn poses or putting your child in a basket of flowers.

I make pictures that will someday tell your child and your grandkids the story of this season for your family.

Planning

Trying to figure out when to schedule your newborn session is overwhelming. That’s why I wrote my complete guide about when you should take newborn photos.

While studio and posed newborn photographers will tell you 7 to 10 days after birth, I prefer 14 days or 6 weeks for my lifestyle approach. Babies are more alert and interactive, and we capture more of their little personalities.

FAQs

For in home newborn photos, I suggest 2 weeks or 6 weeks. To learn more read my article about when to schedule newborn photos.

3 weeks can still be great. I recommend scheduling before 2 weeks largely because some infants go through a period of baby acne from 2-5 weeks, but I also understand that every baby has their own timeline. Babies born early often go through this phase earlier in their lives, so often 4-5 weeks works better for them. We will create beautiful and meaningful images of your little one at any age.

The best time of day for an at home photo session is midday. This allows us to make the most of natural light and utilize various spaces within your home.

I prioritize baby safety above all else. If parents are comfortable, I love incorporating siblings by having them hold the baby or capturing sweet moments together on the bed.

Nope! I never pose babies, and I rarely even touch them. There are two reasons – I don’t want to get them sick, and I want these pictures to reflect your life with your baby, not some version of it that I invent.

I block off extra time for newborn sessions, so in the weeks leading up to your photoshoot you are often able to adjust the timing to fit your baby’s schedule. I also allow for a longer session duration to accommodate these needs. If your baby needs a feeding or even a quick nap, we take the necessary breaks. Your baby’s comfort and well-being are my top priorities.

Great question. Babies arrive when they arrive. And unexpected challenges are always possible. For a legitimate reason, I am always happy to reschedule a newborn session.
