Bay Area Newborn Photography

Capture the precious first days of your baby’s life in beautiful, unposed authenticity

Fleeting as First Light

If maternity is a whole season, the newborn weeks vanish like the day’s first light.

When you’re in it, time stretches to the horizon. But you will remember it as a moment.

A moment full of details you never want to forget, but in a haze of exhaustion, you will struggle to remember.

See how I’ve captured captured this moment for families across the Bay Area.

“The days are long, but the years are short. Enjoy every moment because they grow up so fast.”

(or will be soon)

I’ve been there

Here’s a self portrait one week after our daughter was born. She wasn’t much of a sleeper (can you tell?) so we rely on photographs to support our memories and remind us of how we felt.

As a work-from-home dad, I know what it means to manage a home, a business, and a life within the little spaces in between. I approach every newborn session with care, empathy, and patience.

Newborn photography is about more than just your baby; it’s about this new chapter for you as a family. From quiet snuggles to little fingers to the baby books and gifts you have scattered about the house, we create timeless images that feel as warm and authentic as your family.

Here’s the plan

1. Guided planning

I’ll walk you through everything—choosing the best time, suggesting outfits, and preparing your home.

2. Photo day

Expect a calm, baby-led session where we move at your newborn’s pace. We’ll pause for feedings, changings, even a cat nap, capturing moments as they naturally unfold.

3. Gallery delivery

Within a few weeks, you’ll receive a curated gallery of timeless images that will forever remind you how this important moment felt for your family.

When is the Best Time for a Newborn Session?

I wrote a whole article about this. Read When to Schedule Newborn Photos.

TLDR – my favorite ages for newborn photos are 14 days and 6 weeks, but we can make great pictures no matter when you schedule your newborn session.

Kind Words

“We were looking for a photographer to capture family photos of us with our newborn daughter. We wanted someone with a more candid and natural style vs lots of posed shots. We also wanted someone we felt comfortable with since we aren’t used to being in front of a camera….”

“Our expectations were exceeded in every way working with David! In both the shoots (we did two) we felt really comfortable following his lead and direction and the sessions just felt really easy, like we were working with a long time friend.

“The photos were incredible- we got mostly candids and natural shots which was exactly what we wanted but also really loved the ones we posed for. We loved them all!”

“We had a lot of fun putting together a lie flat album, which came out great and was very high quality.”

We can’t think of anything we would change, and really appreciate David capturing this first year of our baby’s life and hope to do it again in the future!”

Let’s capture the beauty of these fleeting days together

My calendar fills up fast. Summer, Fall, and weekends in Marin & San Francisco often book weeks in advance. Simply complete the form below and I’ll email you a scheduling link.

FAQs

For in home newborn photos, I suggest 2 weeks or 6 weeks. To learn more read my article about when to schedule newborn photos.

3 weeks can still be great. I recommend scheduling before 2 weeks largely because some infants go through a period of baby acne from 2-5 weeks, but I also understand that every baby has their own timeline. Babies born early often go through this phase earlier in their lives, so often 4-5 weeks works better for them. We will create beautiful and meaningful images of your little one at any age.

The best time of day for an at home photo session is midday. This allows us to make the most of natural light and utilize various spaces within your home.

I prioritize baby safety above all else. If parents are comfortable, I love incorporating siblings by having them hold the baby or capturing sweet moments together on the bed.

Nope! I never pose babies, and I rarely even touch them. There are two reasons – I don’t want to get them sick, and I want these pictures to reflect your life with your baby, not some version of it that I invent.

I block off extra time for newborn sessions, so in the weeks leading up to your photoshoot you are often able to adjust the timing to fit your baby’s schedule. I also allow for a longer session duration to accommodate these needs. If your baby needs a feeding or even a quick nap, we take the necessary breaks. Your baby’s comfort and well-being are my top priorities.

Great question. Babies arrive when they arrive. And unexpected challenges are always possible. For a legitimate reason, I am always happy to reschedule a newborn session.
