I could write all day about incredible Bay Area photo locations, but the truth is what matters more is you. Where are the places that mean the most to you? Where is your family at ease? Where are you building the memories that are shaping the adults your children will become?
For this multigenerational Potrero Hill family, it is the community garden.
From the moment I walked in, I knew this would be a unique experience. The gardens were vibrant with flowers and there were pockets of shade and light. A big old twisted tree in the corner. And even more it was funky, unpolished, and loved. It was a place where real work was being done, where real people were building community.
We planted vegetables, we sprayed water at each other with the hose, we had beer and strawberries at the picnic table. Then we walked to their home to catch the evening light streaming through their windows. But more important than anything we did, was how we felt. And I think the photos below will show you more than I could ever tell.
These are a mix of digital and film. My favorites are largely on film 🙂
I’m David, and I photograph Bay Area families that are super proud of where they live. My easygoing presence puts everyone at ease, and I focus on candid emotion and moments of connection. No posing, no stress.
