Photo galleries have a way of becoming something like the people in the images. This lovely little family has a presence you will feel immediately as you look through the pictures below. They were highly tuned in to their surroundings, noticing light and flowers and every little change in energy from their new baby. This comes through in an image gallery that is full of variety.

I broke plenty of rules in taking these pictures, inspired by lens flares and unique light. I pulled out a vintage camera and snapped two rolls of photos on 35mm Kodak film. During the editing process, I converted a number of unique images to black and white.

We also filled this gallery with variety by choosing a location with an adjacent beach and forest. The Murphy Windmill in San Francisco, where Lincoln Ave meets the Great Highway, is a great place for a family who wants to keep moving and enjoy that space where the forest meets the beach. And we got lucky, too – the nasturtiums were in full bloom on that Spring day.

I’m David, and I photograph Bay Area families that are super proud of where they live. My easygoing presence puts everyone at ease, and I focus on candid emotion and moments of connection. No posing, no stress.
