For Marin families looking for an easy roadside family session location, Tennessee Valley checks all of the boxes. The drive is quick, there are open spaces and shaded nooks, and everything is a short walk from the parking area. This is a natural choice with little kids.

I love Tennessee Valley most near sunrise and sunset, but there is enough shade that we can also work with more harsh, midday lighting conditions. My only disappointment is that dogs are not allowed!

These are all pictures I took of my own family during a morning outing north of The Bridge. On the way up we stopped at Equator Coffee in Mill Valley for caffeine and pastries. Then after a nice hike and some photos we stopped at Hook Fish (also in Mill Valley) for lunch. I highly recommend both.

For the more adventurous, Tennessee Valley trailhead also offers a long walk or a quick gravel bike ride out to Tennessee Beach. The dramatic rocky headlands and steep beach look like an incredible location for an off-the-beaten-path family photo session.
