Your San Francisco Maternity Photographer

Documenting the beauty of your journey through the season of waiting.

More Than
a Bump

There’s an actual human growing inside of you. It is completely wild.

And your body is changing drastically.

Every. Single. Day.

You don’t know where the discomfort ends and the magic begins. There are certainly plenty of both.

This is one of the most authentic experiences of your life, and you want to remember what that felt like.

And you want to tell the whole story, the one that includes the joy and the magic but also the quiet moments and even the tough ones too.

“Pregnancy is a process that invites you to surrender to the unseen force behind all life.”

Judy Ford

Pregnancy is Unrepeatable

My wife and I had a long road to a successful pregnancy, and the more we open up and tell about it, the more we find other women and couples with emotional stories of their own.

Why am I telling you this? Because I want you to know that I see maternity, and the photos that we make of it, as unrepeatable. Each and every pregnancy contains a narrative of its own, full of varying levels of excitement and joy and discomfort, and even some anxiety too.

With maternity sessions, I am looking to make pictures that weave right into the fabric of your narrative. We work together to find the magic in your journey. That includes collaboration in where we take pictures, who you bring along, and what you want to wear. Maternity is personal, and your pictures should be too.

Outdoor Maternity Photos

I generally recommend outdoor maternity sessions. Pregnancy and childbirth are such deeply natural processes, and outdoor spaces highlight that. Dramatic sunlight, dense fog, redwood forests, rugged California coastline – photographs in these environments are full of a deep sense of connection.

If you are due in March thru May, don’t stress. Here’s why Winter is my favorite season for photo sessions.

FAQs

My wife lost two pregnancies. By the third one, she kept it fairly private. She also recognized the importance of documenting this season of her life but was uncomfortable with too much focus on her body. This experience shaped the way I approach maternity sessions. We keep the focus on telling a broader story and of your connection to place.

For a typical pregnancy, I suggest 30-34 weeks. 36 weeks is fine, but it is nice to have a little room for rescheduling. After 36 weeks it gets much harder to move around, and at that point, the baby could show up anytime. For multiples, 30 weeks is about right!

This is completely up to you. There is no right or wrong answer but I do want to say that it is completely ok (in fact, it’s awesome) to take this space for yourself. We can also do a bit of both, asking your partner or kids to go for a walk during the second half of the session.

We generally schedule the maternity session right away and pencil in a newborn session as well. After the newborn Then I will reach out a few months before your child’s 6 month and 1 year birthdays. The Four Seasons package is meant to streamline this whole process so that you don’t have to stress about it.

You pay 20% to secure your reservation. Then 20% is due 10 days before each of the sessions. Everything is simple and automated – you won’t have to remember a thing 🙂

I love when families bring their pets. Know that things will be a little more chaotic and it is really important to think through the experience.

Obviously, we need a pet-friendly location and likely want to avoid crowded or distracting spaces. An in-home or backyard session or a weekday at Fort Funston can both work well for pets.

Let’s chat over the phone about your pet and your situation.

Great question. Babies arrive when they arrive. And unexpected challenges are always possible. For a legitimate reason, I am always happy to reschedule a maternity session.
